Wednesday was a great time of worship, refreshing and a tour of our new Youth building! We had a great time and prayed over the new facility as it begins to take shape. As we head off to school we can feel a change in the air that says fall is near! There are many things changing all around us. For one, we have been blessed with a new youth center! We are in the design stage so we need your ideas of how you think it should look. (i.e. themes, colors, layout, era, etc.) Can't wait to see what all of you come up with!

What is a Big Game? Basically, it is an all-day theme based event that is played with hundreds of players of all ages and skill levels. Fort Knox opens all the fields as one GIGANTIC playing field. Game consists of 2 separate HUGE team forces that battle for points and are given specific missions and tasks to complete throughout the day.?

Ok this is the official Chapel Pike Wesleyan Sunday Event schedule for the Summer of 2010.

There are several OUT REACH events scheduled. We really need your input and help with them as we try to reach out into the community and reach people for Christ. So plan on coming and being a part of those. And if you have any ideas let Pastor Brian know and we can do that on those nights.

Now the fellowship nights: thats just the churchy way of saying we'll be hanging out at someones house. As we get closer to those Sundays you'll be getting information as to where and what we'll be doing. It's going to be a great summer, have high expectations and you wont be disappointed.

Paint Ball Trip

Arrive at the Splat Attack Field between 1:15-1:30
Games beginning at 2, we have the field till 5.

Cost: Everyone pays $5, for field rental and Referees and you must fill out a new 2010-2011 Waiver

If you need gear: $12= gun/mask rental

& you have to use the field paint, $43 per case of 2000 (He does sell it by the 500s but the case is the best deal)

$5 (field and refs) $12 (rental gear) $43 (paint if you don't find someone to go in with you) $60 bucks. Now you can save money buy buying fewer paintballs, or if you have someone go in with you on a case of paint.

If you have your own gear:

$5 for field/refs

CO2= $ 6 for a 20oz (I think all day nitro is $8)

BYOP (Bring your own paint) this week a case of 2000 is $29 dollars at Dunhams Sporting Goods

Pastor Brian has a few extra guns if you would like to rent one of his for 5 dollars, you would still need to rent a tank and pay for air. But you could use your own paint. See him for details.

We will be taking a trip down to Indy on November 14th to visit Comody Sportz as their web site say:

is fast-paced improvisational comedy that's fun for everyone! ComedySportz is played like a sport, with two teams battling for laughs and points as they make up scenes and songs on the spot. The audience makes all the suggestions and votes for the winners, and the referee calls the fouls.

Please have your permission slips and money into Pastor Brian by November 4th. The shows sell out pretty fast and we want to order the tickets in time. The cost is $14 for adults and $12 for students. Moms and Dads if you would like to join us, we would be thrilled. Please let us know asap (or at least by Nov 4th) they have a snack shop if you wanna send extra cash for the kiddos to grab some grub. There is a menu and price list on their web site. Mission Trip

Well, we are just one week away from our spring break mission trip. I can't believe we leave next week. I'm excited to go!

Pray with me for safety as we travel, for boldness as we meet new people and do new things, and for an awareness for what God has for us to do.

This is a picture of the church building, the church, the real church, are the people that attend there each week. Our goal is to encourage them, to serve them and to leave them knowing we love them.

A little behind the scenes info for ya. There attendance has been growing to around 50 each week. There are people in the church that have been attending since it opened its doors many years ago. There Pastor, Pastor Chris Kaste, is working full time outside the church and serves with a full time heart. He has many dreams and goals to see the church reach its community for Christ. We are going to do all we can to be a blessing to this congregation. It will be fun. Check back next week. If we have an internet connection we'll keep you updated.

I work for a Camping Ministry called Impact 2818 (based on the Great Commission... Matt 28:18) as a "retreat specialist"... I plan retreats, host retreat, bill retreats, etc

Well, my parents are still in Marion, hoping to go to Zambia in July, my brother and his wife are moving to New York, and I am engaged to Jared Rensberger (we met at college) and am getting married June 27, 2009!

Do you have any good Chapel Pike memories you’d like to share?

Ski trip... was it 2004? I taught Jess and all the girls how to spoonerize (hessica jolland, helody melvie, etc etc)

Also the goodwill trip where Jess and Paige both fit into those HUGE pants (I'm pretty sure it was those two)

I am currently still working at Cracker Barrel & attending school at I.U.K. to pursue my second degree in Radiography.

Tell us about your family?
I have a mom (Linda), a cat (Callie), a dog (Sadie), a dad (Jim), a step-mom (Christine), one 1/2 sister (Laura) & one 1/2 brother (J.J.) and when I refer to them I consider them my brother and sister not 1/2. My mom works at the local Courthouse as a court reporter, my dad and step-mom both work at a local steel alloy (?) factory called Haynes International, she works in Roll Grind I believe and he works in maintenance, he fixes machines that break. My sister is 16 and just got her license and is a sophomore at North Miami High School and plays Volley Ball and manages the Wrestling team. My brother is 15 and is a freshman at North Miami High school, he is in wrestling and track and field.

Where do you live?
Right now I'm living in the Washington D.C. area (Great Falls, Virginia to be more precise).

What are you doing these days? Work? School? I'm doing graphic design in downtown D.C. at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for a company that's contracted to their communications department. I design materials for conferences, annual reports, posters, websites, and whole bunch of other random stuff. I also do some of my own design work. I'm still somewhat new to D.C., so I get lost all the time while driving around and enjoy finding new places and things. I'm getting to know some more people at the church I've been attending so that's good (the total attendance is around 10,000 people). I definitely miss the intimacy of a smaller church like Chapel Pike!

Tell us about your family?
Right now my brother is going to school at IWU and my parents and sister are in New Zealand, where my parents are doing missions work for Global Partners. My brother is in his junior year at IWU studying Media Communications, and my sister will be in her senior year of high school.

Do you have any good Chapel Pike memories you’d like to share?
There are a TON of fun memories from Chapel Pike, I don't even know where to begin, but I definitely remember the friendships and the people the most. I also loved playing with everyone in the worship band and going to afterglows at people's houses after youth. Also the crazy trips in Lucille and Lucille II, the beloved church vans! If I remember right they would break down and were always a mess with doritos and mountain dew cans after coming back from convention.

A brief message to the youth group.
Enjoy youth group as much as you can! Learn all you can from Brian and the leaders you have. For me youth was a safety-net, especially during the times when it was tough to be in the Marion High School environment. Take advantage of it, it can be that safe place for you too. If you're not involved at youth group you're missing out! Don't wait until it's too late to be involved, whether it's helping organize events, helping with music or skits or games or even setting up for service. Be honest with yourself and others about your walk with God. And above everything else, hang on to Jesus Christ as the center of your life.

Where do you live?

What are you doing these days? Work? School?

Presently, I'm working as a Case Manager with the Salvation Army helping lower income families and individuals meet their needs through financial, food, and clothing assistance. I'm involved with a local Wesleyan Church in Portland, OR named St. Johns Wesleyan. I presently assist on the worship team with guitar or whatever is needed and have taught a Sunday School class on Biblical relationships. School is non-existent right now, although it'd be nice to get back to it after a bit.

Tell us about your family?

Family mainly consist of those living in IN(diana). Nothing is on the horizon as of yet, but anyone who thinks I am family is more than welcome to visit. It's pretty unique on the Left-Side of the US of A!!

Do you have any good Chapel Pike memories you’d like to share?

There really are too many to mention. Some consist of Brian (MARK) Gordon getting out of a van in Honduras and rolling under it into the gutter, while watching stoned children think Godzilla had arrived as all this happened. Or taking a trip up to Niagara Falls up through MI(chigan) into Canada and being forced into the back of the van because they thought I was a "crack-baby". Or teaching, then Junior High but now Senior High, kids on Sunday Nights biblical principles through soccer. Or rushing around for the After-School Program at Kendall. Or just playing basketball on Monday nights since I was in Middle school at Lincoln. All are very fond memories!!

A brief message to the youth group?
Truly make the most of all God has given you. Use the God-given talents to the fullest of potentials you are capable of because what you have been given is unique and unlike anything anyone else has been given. It is truly special!! Build solid-long-standing relationships now, and don't wait for tomorrow. In whatever you do, no matter what the opposition may be, seek the Lord with all your heart and understanding. Follow the calling He has for your life, both in the short and long term. Most importantly, fear the Lord so much that you're capable to be wrapped in His mercy and goodness when you least expect it.

Over the years we have had many different adults help us in THE NET as youth sponsors. I was thinking about their influence and how much they have meant to me. God has blessed us with them. Some of them have left to follow God's plan elsewhere. Have you wondered what happened to them? I thought it would be fun to catch up. Jonathan is the youth pastor at Pleasant Dale Church. Julie is a stay-at-home mom.

Our daughter Esther was born on October 30th, 2008. She is adorable and lots of fun!!

Do you have any good Chapel Pike memories you'd like to share?

I remember the time we had an 80's night, and everyone forgot to dress up except Tony and Christy--who went ALL OUT! Awkward! :) For those that went on the mission trip to Michigan I will just say, "I'm wearing THIS!" Our "farewell night" was so special! We loved all of the notes and gifts from the teens and Brian and Jaye. Pass the Kleenex!!

A brief message to the youth group?

Hi everyone! We miss you so much! Hope that all is well with all of you. Thanks for being such awesome teens and for teaching us about youth ministry! In the famous words of a certain 2nd grader, "You knocked me down . . . like a flagpole . . . that rolls . . . like a rock!"

Matthew and Stephanie Morris currently reside in Marion, IN. They are active at Brinker Heights Wesleyan Church where Stephanie serves as youth pastor. She also works as a Family Behavioral Specialist at Cornerstone while Matthew works at Carter Lumber. They're enjoying their son, Andrew, who was born in 2008. They'll never forget the time when Stephanie's Buick got stuck in the mud in the Lewton's yard. Chapel Pike is a very special place to them because it's where they met. Matthew and Stephanie encourage The Net teens to remember that you're never too young to make a difference for the cause of Christ. You are always an example to someone!

On Saturday November 9th we loaded up two van fulls of kids and traveled up to the Fort Wayne mall to find our counselors that were in disguise. We had no clue what to expect. Were they normal people shopping? Were they Amish? Were they pregnant? Were they hobos that were wounded? Or did they have some type of shake that nobody knew what was wrong with them? Little did we know they were every single one of those descriptions. Nate Quick was an Amish man, Amber Quick was a pregnant woman, Kent Santee was a wounded hobo, and Pastor Brian had a shake that nobody knew what was wrong with him. If you weren't able to come you missed out on a great time! We hope you can join us in the next youth group event.

Maze Daze

On Wednesday October 29th the youth group went over to the Lewton's barn and had a giant cardboard maze. It was bigger and better than last year. It took up the whole top floor of the upstairs. There was all kinds of food and candy. We all got to go on a hayride and warm up around the bonfire. If you were there thanks for coming and we hope you had a great time! If you weren't there we are sorry you couldn't make it. Thank you to all the youth sponsors who helped out with the maze and thank you to the Lewton's for letting us use their barn. We hope you had fun!!!!

We took the teens to Campbell's Pumpkin Patch last night. We had about 36 join us. Big thank you to all the youth sponsors and parents that went along with us. I believe everyone had a great time. There was the corn maze, the hay ride, and of course the snack shop. If you weren't able to join us we hope to see you Sunday or at youth group next Wednesday. Check back in a couple of days to check out the paint ball video. Paintball this Saturday at 9:30 am.

October will be a very busy month for THE NET.

October 8th-Wednesday- we will be going to the Campbells Pumpkin Patch. We'll leave the church at 6:06 and return home about 9ish. The cost will be $5.00 There will be the corn maze, bon fire, hay ride and the snack shop will be open.

October 11th-Saturday- we will be going paint-balling here in Marion. Please bring a signed form with you. You must have this form in order to play. The cost will vary, if you have your own gun/mask and paint you only have to pay $5.00 this will help cover the cost of the refs. If you need to rent equipment it will cost $12.00 and you will have to buy his paint. A box of paint is $42. We recommend you get a couple of friends to split the cost of paint. We have the field from 10:00-1:00. There will be a safety meeting at 9:30 am sharp. After the games some of us are going to run into town for lunch if you would like to join us bring $$ for that too.

Wednesday, October 29th=MAZE DAZE. That's right, we will be building our giant card board maze, bigger and better than ever. This year we will be holding our event at the home of one of our youth families. This will be a great time.

That's the big three. We have started up The Core again on Sunday Nights. The Core is the Sunday Night youth meeting where we talk about some deeper things of faith, you know--worship, communion, baptism stuff like that. If you can't come on Wednesday then The Core may be a great way to stay connected. We hope to see you there.

Schools Back In

By this time you are all back in school. Wow! Did the summer fly by or what? We are getting things rolling again here at THE NET. We've missed you this summer and hope you will be back. There are a lot of things planned starting with our Back to School Wacky Olympics on September 3rd. There will be some, well, crazy olympic games, tons of prizes and give-a-ways. So get your team together (teams of 5 people). We are also working on a Kings Island trip.....I know we all ready did an amusement park trip but we did not get enough. There will be info passed out this Wednesday about this trip. Right around the corner in October we have a paintball adventure planned. (flyers available)
This Sunday Pastor Brian is going to be preaching in big church and he said it would be great to get as many teens there as possible. We are going to set up a information table with all kinds of youth stuff available for you and your parents to pick up: calendars, paintball flyers/permission forms, prayer partner slips, etc. Hey, hope to see you there!

Never good bye

Well, you may have heard, Zack and Becca have moved away.

I know it's a bummer.

I know we have seen a lot of our sponsors over the last couple of years leave us...Katie, Chad, Mel, Andy, Jon, Julie, Amanda, Pastor Josh and Becca....its a long list. And we'll be going through it again in another year when Josh and Suzie move away to become youth pastors at a new church.

We must think in the positive....it was great getting to know them, it was great hanging out with them. Each of them taught us something different. They all mean so much to us, it's really sad when they leave. I want you to know that each of them left not because of us, they all loved us. They left because they felt that God had called them to do something different. Lets pray for them, and enjoy the time we all had together. Who knows we may get lucky and get them back sometime.

Just like the game of tag we played Wednesday night, there will be more come link up with us to walk with us on this youth group adventure, it will be fun. Just you wait and see.

Back from Camp

Greetings!

What a crazy couple of weeks in good ole Fairmont Campgrounds. First was Jr. High camp, where we took 12 students and 4 adults. It was a great time! We learned a ton about God and how to live for Him. There was one powerful service that focused on confession. After the "confession" time, we had another few minutes of worship that was really hard to end. It was cool.

The guys who went with us to camp were those who were always "getting into trouble". It’s kinda funny because Pastor Brian is the Jr. High camp director and he was always hearing about what was going on in dorms...and it turned out that the trouble was the dorm that our guys stayed in. There was also an "incident" with super glue being spread out on all the toilet seats. The camp caretaker was all over Pastor Brian about that one, too. Turns out that it wasn't super glue but, rather, Karo Syrup. And, guess what? One of our guys did it. :) Pastor Brian got a confession phone call about that one. We asked him what he thought about it...He got a pretty good laugh from it.

Sr. High camp was really good this year, too. The speaker was a guy who used to be one of our own district youth pastors--Jeff Eckart. He did a good job and the music was good, too. The coolest afternoon game time was the "Wild Cat" games, which turned into a giant mud fight. Everyone was covered with mud. Good times.

Let us know your camp stories from this year. It was great to hear what God did for you when you spoke at last Sunday’s service. Do it again but, this time, post it.

What we need is one student each week to write up a "This is what happened in youth group this week" blog entry. This isn't like homework. Really, it isn't! All you'll need to do is sit down at the computer, write an email to Pastor Brian, and he will take care of the posting. Trust us; it will be much better to get other ideas and perspectives on youth meeting. Hmmm…who knows? There may even be a soda in it for you.

Never To Young

This past weekend you may have missed out on a great time at Indiana Wesleyan. Never Too Young is a jr. high event that really rocked. We had a total of 7 go from Chapel Pike to join over 800 from around the world, well, maybe I should say from around the area--Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin. KC and the Gloworms showed up to help us drive the bus. Jason Boyer was the main speaker and, of course, we had the run of IWU. Some of us did the rock climbing wall and went swimming in the giant IWU pool. It was a blast! If you went, please be sure to leave a comment and share one of your NTY stories.

Last Night in THE NET

Pastor Brian had been cleaning off some shelves in his office and ran across this book, copyright 1974. 125 crowd breaker games, numbered 1-125. We shouted out a number, and if it didn't require props, we played. We did the ol' standby, #103 'Honey if you love me please, please smile', and #56 'Coke Chug', #25 'Barefoot Scramble' and wrapped up the game portion of the evening with the 'Roller Coaster/Restroom Break' skit. It was a night of throw back fun. PB said the book was going back on the shelf until he moves the book shelf in his office again. So sad.

I'm pretty happy we don't live in the old youth group days.

After the game portion of the evening we heard about Campus Challenge, again, and how the Wesleyan Schools offer scholarship money for participation in the campus challenge program. We were encouraged to talk with Gale and Becca about getting ready for that event.

At the end of youth meeting we picked prayer partners and promised to pray for 5 of our friends from THE NET everyday this week. Everyone in the group made a commitment to pray. So tell us about your prayer time, who are you praying for? Have you kept up on your commitments?

Parent Meeting

On Sunday afternoon we held a parent meeting. Thank you to all the youth sponsors and parents that accepted our invitation and joined us.

Pastor Brian had three things on the agenda that were leading into our summer schedule that he wanted to discuss at this meeting:

Let's review some of the highlights:

Calendar

We had the opportunity to look at a rough draft calendar that Pastor Brian had put together. Each month from May through August has a big event. May-Never Too Young, June-camps, July-VBS, camping trip, August-amusement park visit and Back to School Bash. Along with each of the "big" events Pastor Brian said there will also be some "spontaneous" events such as bike ride/cookout down the Cardinal Greenway from Marion to Gas City, SNAC (Sunday Night After Church) much of those events will be added to the calendar after PBH meets with the youth staff.

Tag teaming with the church, Pastor Brian is going to promote the Sunday night service project within The Net youth group. The first project is the firefighter ice cream social. We'll serve and connect with Marion's firefighters on June 1st.

Communication

Seems that email works well for those parents that were at the meeting. Pastor Brian introduced The Net blog as another tool for keeping informed. One suggestion was getting The Net page back into the church newsletter. You will see that in an upcoming edition of the newsletter. Pastor Brian is also going to be working with the students to create a newsletter for the teens. So be looking for that as well.

Campus Challenge

Gale Richmond, one of our youth sponsors and Admissions Director at IWU came and shared the scholarship opportunities available through Campus Challenge. What a fantastic opportunity for any student thinking of attending a Wesleyan university. Please check out the Campus Challenge web site here.

Just a reminder that the money and forms need to be turned in tonight for the never to young jr high weekend at IWU. It's going to be an awesome time and I'm really looking forward to it. We'll leave the church at 5:30 pm. Bring your sleeping bag, pillow, Bible, shower stuff, swimming suit if your planning on getting in the pool...We'll be staying in the dorms on campus.
